Bangkok Thailand History
History
The history lives in every corner of the city. The locals are proud of it and keep it. They follow the saying “Without the past there is no future”. Many centuries ago there were no comfortable Bangkok hotels, high buildings and fabulous parks. And it was a simple village, which transmitted various vegetables and fruits to the great capital Ayutthaya through the River Chaoprae.
Bangkok has not been always the capital of Thailand (Siam). In the 18th century the former Siamese capital of the state Ayutthaya was attacked and burnt to the ashes by the Burmese. King Taksin, who ruled at that time, ordered to transfer the capital to Thonburi. It was done in order to have an easy way to escape from Thonburi pootling down the Burmese River.
In 1782 King Rama I, the founder of the Chakri Dynasty, decided to move the capital to Bangkok, believing it was much safer place. Here started the building of a royal palace. So, Bangkok from the countryside became the capital of the state. For the removal of groundwater were dug the canals, so the water went into the river. The city began to grow very quickly. Chinese entrepreneurs, who were owners of the plantations, have been relocated to the south-east of the center. Today, there is a well-known Chinatown, and on the places of rice and vegetable fields appeared the commercial and residential areas.
In the second half of the 20th century, a large flow of population from the provinces poured in Bangkok to earn money. The ruler Rama IV, who received his education at Oxford University, opened its doors to European capital and the city began to change. The dug canals were backfilled with sand, and the new highways and motorways were built. At the place of wooden houses and slums grew the skyscrapers and highways.
Nowadays, most of the hotels of Bangkok are concentrated in the historic center of the city, in the business and commercial districts of Silom, in the shopping and tourist districts of Siam Square and in Sukhumvit, the center of nightlife and general tourism in Bangkok. All the accommodations are cheap and of a good level. However, the territory they have is usually small; almost there is no animation, though it is not necessary.
